Mewar International University (MIU), Masaka, Nasarawa State, has matriculated over 400 newly admitted students across four faculties and 19 departments during its 4th matriculation ceremony.

The ceremony, which held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the MIU Reception Hall, attracted members of the university management, staff, parents, guardians, students, security agencies, government officials and traditional title holders.

Addressing the matriculating students, the University Bursar, Alhaji Abdulkadir Maude, urged them to always pay their school fees promptly, stressing that timely payment was key to sustaining the institution’s commitment to delivering world-class education.

“Our commitment in the university is to give you a world-class education, and your commitment is to pay school fees on time,” he said.

On behalf of the Controller of Examinations, Mr. Abdulhamid Idris charged the students to strictly abide by the university’s examination rules and regulations, warning that misconduct would not be tolerated.

The Director of Sports, Mr Muhammad Umar, encouraged students to actively participate in sporting activities, noting that students who engage in sports often perform better academically and socially. He disclosed that the university is equipped with both indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

The event was enlivened by a cultural presentation staged by students and staff of the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

In his address, the Proprietor and Pro-Chancellor of the university, Engr. Abubakar Sani Bello, congratulated the matriculating students on their successful admission. “You worked hard to be here, and today you officially become members of the Mewar International University academic family,” he said.

He charged the students to be disciplined, steadfast in character and committed to hard work, adding that the future belongs to those who prepare for it.

Engr. Bello also appreciated parents and guardians for entrusting their children to the institution, assuring them of the university’s commitment to providing a safe, supportive and intellectually stimulating environment for students to thrive.

Delivering the matriculation lecture, Professor A. O. Lawal, Deputy Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY), described matriculation as more than a mere academic ritual. “Matriculation is a formal covenant between the students and the university. While it confers rights, it also imposes responsibilities,” he noted.

In a goodwill message delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olabode Agunbiade, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Tanko, the university thanked Almighty Allah for the successful ceremony. He explained that MIU, described as the first Indian-type university in Africa, offers rich academic programmes designed to meet global standards.

Professor Agunbiade disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to programmes in the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, and Computing and Sciences. He added that the university is optimistic about securing full accreditation for programmes including Physiology, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Anatomy, Nursing Sciences, Physiotherapy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Radiography, Pharmacology and Mass Communication.

He further announced that the Council of Legal Education (CLE) has granted the university a full licence to run a Bachelor’s Degree programme in Law.

As part of the ceremony, the university honoured about 100 staff members with Distinguished Service Awards, each accompanied by a cash prize of ₦20,000.

The highlight of the event was the formal administration of the matriculation oath, after which the students were officially admitted as bona fide members of the university community.
