The Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended the people of the state for their resilience, unity and unwavering commitment to peace and development as Niger State marks its 50th anniversary of creation.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the Golden Jubilee on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Governor Bago described the anniversary as a profound and historic milestone, reflecting five decades of shared sacrifice, unity in diversity and collective aspiration for progress.
The governor expressed gratitude to God Almighty and appreciation to generations of Nigerlites, past leaders and founding fathers whose efforts, he said, laid the foundation for the growth, stability and development of the state.
He noted that over the past fifty years, Niger State has recorded significant strides in governance, agriculture, education, healthcare and infrastructure, harnessing its vast natural and human resources to advance development.
Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to accelerating development through the New Niger Agenda, which prioritises agricultural transformation, infrastructural renewal, youth empowerment and inclusive governance as key pillars for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
In recognition of divine guidance and in appreciation of the peace enjoyed in the state, the governor declared Friday, February 6, 2026, and Sunday, February 8, 2026, as Special Prayer Days across Niger State. He urged people of all faiths to use the days to offer prayers for continued unity, lasting peace and accelerated development.
The governor further called on all Nigerlites, both at home and in the diaspora, to use the Golden Jubilee celebration as an opportunity to renew their commitment to patriotism, tolerance and collective responsibility, stressing that building a greater Niger State requires the support and collaboration of all citizens.
He assured the people of purposeful leadership, aimed at securing a prosperous future for both present and future generations.
Governor Bago congratulated the people of Niger State on the historic milestone and expressed optimism that the next fifty years would usher in greater opportunities, progress and hope for the state.
