The Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) has graduated a new set of trainees following the successful completion of a two-week intensive leatherwork training programme.

The programme, organised under the leadership of the Director-General of NILEST, Dr Auwal Mustapha Imam, was sponsored by Senator Khalid Soba, who represents Kaduna North Senatorial District.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Dr Imam urged the trainees to make effective use of the skills acquired during the training by venturing into self-employment and entrepreneurship, noting that leatherwork offers significant opportunities for income generation.

He commended Senator Soba for sponsoring the programme, describing the intervention as a practical step toward youth empowerment and skills development.

Representing the senator at the event, Hon. Lawal Balarabe expressed appreciation to NILEST for the partnership and praised Senator Soba for supporting initiatives aimed at equipping youths with vocational skills.

As part of the empowerment package, the graduates were provided with butterfly sewing machines and stipends to enable them establish their own leatherwork businesses.

The training and empowerment programme is part of NILEST’s ongoing efforts to promote technical skills acquisition and reduce unemployment through vocational education.
