The Vice Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Hon. Abdulkareem Kamilu, has successfully concluded the 2025 edition of the Sabon Gari Local Government Football Tournament, an initiative aimed at promoting grassroots football development, youth unity, and peaceful coexistence within the area.
The grand finale of the tournament featured a keenly contested match between Sa’in Jama’a FC and Zamani FC, which ended in a draw at regulation time. Sa’in Jama’a FC eventually emerged champions after a dramatic penalty shootout.
The event attracted a large crowd of football enthusiasts, youths, community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents of Sabon Gari Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government and Chairman of ALGON, Kaduna State, Hon. Sheikh Jamilu Abubakar Albani (Samaru, Zaria), graced the occasion and presented the tournament trophy and medals to the winners. He also announced various financial rewards to encourage youth participation and sports development.
The cash awards included ₦500,000 for Sa’in Jama’a FC as champions, ₦250,000 for Zamani FC as runners-up, ₦200,000 for the team that placed third, ₦150,000 for the fourth-placed team, and ₦100,000 for the fifth-placed team. An additional ₦100,000 was announced as emergency financial support for youths, while ₦300,000 was allocated to support the tournament organizers in recognition of the successful execution of the competition.
In his remarks, Hon. Albani commended the Vice Chairman for initiating the tournament, describing it as a vital platform for talent discovery, youth engagement, and the promotion of peace within the community. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Kaduna State Government’s youth development agenda under the leadership of Governor Senator Uba Sani, CON, which prioritizes sports, education, skills acquisition, and youth empowerment.
The council chairman also urged youths in Sabon Gari Local Government to register and update their membership with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that active political participation is essential for inclusive governance and decision-making.
He further called on the youths to continue supporting Governor Uba Sani toward a second term to consolidate the achievements recorded so far, while warning against drug abuse and other social vices. According to him, unity, discipline, and hard work remain critical to building a better future.
The event ended on a joyous note with the presentation of awards, as participants and spectators departed peacefully, reaffirming Sabon Gari Local Government’s commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and inclusive leadership.
