The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki, upholding an earlier ruling that stopped the party’s National Convention.
In its judgment delivered on Monday in Abuja, the appellate court affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court which restrained the PDP from proceeding with the National Convention linked to the disputed leadership of the party.
The appeal was filed by the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), which has been laying claim to the leadership of the opposition party following its emergence at the PDP convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
However, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal and upheld the lower court’s ruling, effectively invalidating the claim of the faction to the party’s leadership through the Ibadan convention.
The court also ordered the appellants, including Turaki and other members of the NWC, to pay a cost of N2 million.
The appellate court had earlier fixed Monday to deliver judgment on the consolidated appeals arising from the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan between Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, 2022.
