Mohammed Umaru Bago has inspected the Chanchaga Waterworks as part of an on-the-spot assessment of the facility.
The visit, according to the governor, is in furtherance of his administration’s determination to address water shortages in Niger State, particularly in the state capital.
During the inspection, Governor Bago toured key sections of the waterworks and held discussions with the Commissioner for Water Resources and Irrigation Services, Farouk Umaru Audi; the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Akilu Musa Kuta; and the Managing Director of the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation, Gimba Yisa, on the prevailing water supply challenges.
The governor stressed the need for the ministry and relevant agencies to ensure that the persistent water scarcity in the state is urgently addressed.
He recently expressed concern over the hardship residents have continued to face due to irregular water supply and appealed to citizens to remain patient, assuring them that temporary measures have been put in place to provide relief while comprehensive efforts are underway to overhaul the water system for improved efficiency and sustainability.
The Commissioner for Water Resources and Irrigation Services, Farouk Umaru Audi, attributed the water scarcity to technical and operational challenges, noting that interventions are already underway to resolve them.
