Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Ahdavi Raja, has strongly rejected comments by Donald Trump suggesting the United States should be involved in choosing Iran’s next leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the envoy said Iran is an independent country and will decide its own leadership without any foreign interference. He accused the United States of always trying to interfere in Iran’s internal matters.
The ambassador also criticised attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States, calling them a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. He said Iran has the right to defend itself but insists the country is not looking for war.
He added that Nigerians living in Iran are safe and confirmed that relations between Nigeria and Iran remain strong after more than 55 years of diplomatic ties.
