A renewed call for political unity and grassroots development took centre stage in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State, as the council inaugurated a new set of political appointees amid strong appeals for alignment with the policies of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
The Chairman of Bosso Local Government Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Usman Laka, made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of seven supervisory councillors, 29 Special Assistants, two Directors-General, and several Senior Special Assistants at the council secretariat in Maikunkele.
Addressing APC stakeholders and community leaders at the event, the council chairman emphasised the need for collective commitment to the “New Niger Agenda,” noting that meaningful development can only be achieved when political actors and citizens align with the administration’s vision.
Highlighting ongoing government interventions in the area, Laka disclosed that the state government has approved the construction of three additional healthcare centres in Bosso, with work already underway. He also revealed that 10 secondary schools across the local government area have been earmarked for renovation to improve learning conditions and enhance educational outcomes.
The chairman charged the newly appointed officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by deploying their experience and ideas towards strengthening governance at the grassroots. He further urged them to remain law-abiding and avoid actions capable of undermining peace and stability, particularly cautioning youths against involvement in political thuggery.
Also speaking at the event, a former member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Bosso Constituency, Hon. Abdul-Malik Madaki Bosso, called on the appointees to embrace teamwork and pursue reforms that would reposition the council for greater efficiency and impact. He advised residents to conduct their political activities peacefully and elect credible leaders in forthcoming elections.
In separate remarks, a former council chairman, Mr. Isah Wakili, congratulated the appointees and expressed optimism that their emergence would translate into tangible development across the area.
Similarly, a House of Representatives aspirant for the Paiko/Bosso Federal Constituency, Engr. Ibrahim Dada, urged youths to demonstrate political maturity and engage in peaceful campaigns. He also encouraged the appointees to maximise available resources in delivering good governance to the people.
The ceremony concluded with the administration of the oath of office by Magistrate Zainab Isah Evuti, marking the official commencement of duties for the newly inaugurated officials.
The event not only signals a new phase in Bosso’s local governance structure but also underscores the broader push for inclusive development and political stability across Niger State.
