Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has forwarded the nomination of Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, the nomination is in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy.
The deputy governorship position became vacant following the voluntary resignation of the former occupant, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
The governor said the decision to nominate Garo followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across the state, urging the Assembly to expedite action on the confirmation process.
Garo, 48, is a seasoned political administrator with over two decades of experience in both elective and appointive positions. His political career includes serving as State Organising Secretary of his party, Special Adviser to the Governor, and Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area.
He also held positions as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and was the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections.
The nomination, the statement added, is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and ensure continued effective service delivery in the state.
