Comrade Abudurhaman Awal, National Leader for People with Disabilities of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has officially resigned from his position. In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party on April 7, 2027, he said the decision was voluntary and taken after careful reflection and a deep sense of responsibility.
“I am grateful to the leaders of the party and the National Working Committee for trusting me to represent and lead people with disabilities under the NNPP platform,” Comrade Awal stated. “The party’s inclusive approach has provided a meaningful platform for advocacy and representation of persons with special needs, which I deeply appreciate.”
He explained that his resignation is in line with his decision to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Bida, Katcha, and Gbako. Comrade Awwal noted that his move also aligns with directives from the National Leader of the party, which encourage aspirants to join the Action Democratic Party (ADC), guiding the timing of his departure from NNPP.
Comrade Awal extended his appreciation to the leadership and members of the party for their understanding, cooperation, and support throughout his tenure. “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve, and I wish the party continued progress and success in its mission,” he said.
Before joining NNPP, Comrade Awal was a civil servant and led the Special Needs Association in Niger State. He has long been a committed advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, championing their inclusion in government and everyday life.
He also serves as the national spokesperson for the Special Needs Association and hosts radio programs aimed at empowering people with special needs. On air, he often tells his audience: “Disability is not failure.”
