Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has urged Nigerian politicians to prioritise national unity, peace and peaceful coexistence as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Babangida made the call when members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Niger State paid him a courtesy visit at his Hilltop residence in Minna.
He urged the people of Niger State and Nigerians at large to place the unity and collective interests of the country above personal and political considerations as political parties prepare for the elections.
The elder statesman emphasised the need for peace, tolerance and mutual respect throughout the electioneering process. He also offered prayers for Niger State and the country, expressing hope for peaceful and successful elections.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the Campaign Council and former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who led the delegation, expressed appreciation to the former military leader for his advice and prayers.
Ibeto assured Babangida that the APC and the Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council (PGCC) would make every effort to ensure that their campaigns remained issue-based, development-oriented and focused on the overall interests of Niger State.
He further assured that promoting unity among the people and sustaining peaceful coexistence would remain key priorities throughout the electioneering process.
