The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has conducted its primary elections for political offices across Niger State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, the Chairman of the ADC in Niger State, Alhaji Musa Hassan, said the party successfully conducted primaries for candidates contesting seats in the State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and the Senate across the 25 local government areas of the state.

He further disclosed that on Saturday, Abubakar Yawale was officially cleared and approved as the party’s governorship candidate after purchasing the nomination form and undergoing the screening process conducted by the party’s committee.

According to him, Yawale emerged as the sole governorship aspirant under the party’s platform in Niger State.

Alhaji Musa Hassan stated that although having more contestants would have reflected wider participation within the party, certain individuals had allegedly worked against the interests of the ADC for personal gain.

He accused some individuals of sabotaging the party by exploiting members and diverting resources for selfish interests, while insisting that the recognised leadership of the party in Niger State remained under his leadership.
The ADC chairman maintained that any group or individuals conducting parallel activities without authorisation from the party leadership lacked legitimacy and were acting contrary to the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Commenting on the leadership crisis at the national level, Hassan said the faction loyal to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) did not recognise the opposing camp, adding that the dispute did not affect the structure of the party in Niger State.

He also referred to a court judgment, which he said affirmed the authority of the party leadership to conduct congresses and primary elections, noting that the ADC in Niger State had complied with all constitutional requirements.

Hassan disclosed that the party had successfully conducted its congresses and primary elections and would participate in the party’s national convention scheduled to hold in Abuja on Sunday.

He urged party members and Nigerians to remain united and committed to the ADC, insisting that the party remained focused on providing an alternative platform for national development.

The party chairman further called on eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections and support ADC candidates at the polls.
