Concerned members and key stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State have called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s governorship primary election held on May 23, 2026, alleging widespread irregularities and a lack of transparency in the process.

The demand was made public during a press briefing addressed by Dr. Babagana K. Musa on behalf of the group. He expressed deep dissatisfaction with both the conduct and the outcome of the exercise, arguing that it failed to uphold the standards of fairness, credibility, and internal democratic principles expected within the party.

According to Dr. Musa, the primary election did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the constitution of the African Democratic Congress. “We are not satisfied with the conduct and outcome of the Governorship Primary Election held on 23rd May, 2026 in Borno State, and we call for total cancellation of the primaries and the conduct of a fresh election that will reflect the will of all aspirants and party members,” he stated.

He further revealed that several party members, agents, and stakeholders had already lodged formal complaints, supported by interviews, statements, and documentary evidence that are currently circulating among party faithful.

Dr. Musa emphasized that the integrity of any primary election is fundamental to maintaining party unity, sustaining public confidence, and preserving democratic values. “Democracy can only thrive where justice, fairness, and the rule of law are respected,” he added.

The concerned ADC members have therefore urged the national leadership of the party to urgently investigate the alleged irregularities and address the grievances raised by stakeholders in the interest of justice, unity, and internal democracy.

The group warned that if the party leadership fails to act within 24 hours, it could lead to a significant loss of loyalty among ADC members in Borno State. They also appealed to security agencies, democratic institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that due process is strictly observed.

Reaffirming their commitment to democratic ideals, Dr. Musa maintained that the group remains dedicated to peace, justice, fairness, and the advancement of democracy in Borno State and Nigeria at large.
