A two-time former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State, Isah Ashiru, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ashiru, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency, secured 86,113 votes to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.

A former Commissioner for Education under the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Jafaru Sani, came second with 29,580 votes.

Other aspirants included the immediate past Commissioner for Education under the administration of Governor Uba Sani, Professor Muhammad San-Bello, who polled 13,559 votes; Ahmed Tijjani, who secured 13,550 votes; and Shuaibu Mikati, who garnered 10,819 votes.

Ashiru previously contested the Kaduna State governorship election on the PDP platform in both 2019 and 2023.
He lost to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2019 election and also came second behind incumbent Governor Uba Sani in 2023 after polling 719,000 votes.

Meanwhile, some House of Representatives aspirants under the platform of the ADC in Kaduna State have rejected the outcome of the party’s primaries, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the exercise.

Addressing a press conference, the leader of the aggrieved aspirants, Samaila Makarfi, described the primary election as a sham and “totally unacceptable,” while calling for a review of the entire process.
