The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the administration of Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago to the welfare of workers across the state.
He described workers as a central pillar of the administration’s development agenda and a key driver of effective governance.
Speaking during the 2026 May Day celebration, the Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago at the event, emphasised the importance of a motivated workforce. He noted that the prosperity and efficiency of the state’s public service depend largely on how well workers are treated.
He stated that the present administration recognises the critical role workers play in delivering essential services and implementing government policies, stressing that their well-being must remain a top priority.
Comrade Garba therefore called on workers across the state to remain steadfast, dedicated, and supportive of ongoing reforms aimed at improving their conditions of service.
According to him, collaboration between government and the workforce is essential for achieving sustainable development and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all citizens.
The Deputy Governor further highlighted that the administration is deliberately implementing policies and programmes designed to boost productivity, enhance morale, and create a more efficient public service.
He said these efforts include ensuring the prompt and regular payment of salaries and pensions, addressing outstanding entitlements, and strengthening institutional frameworks that support workers’ rights and welfare.
In addition, he noted that the government is committed to providing a conducive and safe working environment across all sectors, while also investing in capacity building, training, and professional development to equip workers with the skills needed to meet modern challenges.
He reassured workers that the administration will continue to engage with labour unions and other relevant stakeholders to address concerns, resolve disputes amicably, and foster mutual trust and understanding.
Reiterating the government’s dedication, the Deputy Governor urged workers to reciprocate these efforts with increased productivity, discipline, and a renewed sense of responsibility, noting that a committed workforce remains indispensable to the growth and development of Niger State.
