Residents of Sabon Gari Pledge to Replace Representative in 2027

Residents of Sabon Gari Local Government Area in Kaduna State have declared their resolve to replace their current representative in the 2027 elections, stating unequivocally that they will not return Nasir Idi Kano to office.

The residents contend that since his election in 2023, the lawmaker has been largely absent from the constituency, alleging a lack of visible engagement and failure to deliver tangible development initiatives or constituency projects.

Speaking to our correspondent, a resident, Muhammad A. Abubakar, from one of the wards under the constituency, stressed the urgency of political accountability.

“This is not a time to tolerate non-performance. The representative must reconnect with the people or be replaced by someone capable of providing effective and responsive representation,” he said.

In a similar vein, another resident, Sa’adatu Muhammad, expressed concern over what she described as a disconnect between the electorate and their representative.

“Frankly, this is the first time I am hearing his name. I was not even aware that Sabon Gari had a sitting member in the Kaduna State House of Assembly,” she remarked.

Other residents noted that although the lawmaker represents approximately eight wards, there is no widely acknowledged record of legislative contributions, constituency interventions, or impactful projects attributable to him over the past three years.

They reaffirmed their commitment to sustained civic engagement, voter education, and collective action to ensure that the 2027 elections produce a representative who is accessible, accountable, and aligned with the aspirations of the people.

Efforts to obtain a response from the lawmaker on these allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
