A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has declared his intention to contest for the Zamfara North senatorial seat, citing mounting calls from constituents and growing support across the zone.

Shinkafi made the declaration at his residence in Gusau while receiving a large number of supporters, including defectors from rival camps, who pledged allegiance to his candidacy ahead of the party’s primaries.

He said his decision to purchase the APC senatorial nomination form followed sustained appeals from people within and outside the zone, aimed at strengthening his long-standing relationship with the constituency.

The aspirant expressed concern over what he described as years of neglect suffered by the zone, particularly in addressing insecurity, which he said has inflicted significant socio-economic damage on communities.

“If elected, I will do everything within my capacity to tackle insecurity across Zamfara North and the state at large,” Shinkafi said, adding that he would work with fellow lawmakers to sponsor bills and motions capable of attracting federal interventions to the area.

He also pledged to prioritise development initiatives that would improve living standards and restore stability in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Abdullahi Zurmi said the group decided to align with Shinkafi due to their confidence in his leadership qualities and track record.

He described the aspirant as committed to public welfare and societal advancement, assuring of their readiness to mobilise grassroots support to boost his chances at the polls.

Zurmi further expressed optimism that Shinkafi’s representation would safeguard the interests of the Zamfara North senatorial district, while lamenting that past representatives had failed to meet the expectations of the people.
