The Management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has launched the DHS_Mobile App and DHS SmartQueue System as part of efforts to improve patient flow, reduce waiting time, and enhance healthcare delivery through digital innovation.

The statement announcing the development was signed by Usman Abdullahi Koli, Head of Public Relations and Protocol Unit, ATBUTH, Bauchi.

The new systems were formally demonstrated and piloted at the Family Medicine Department (General Outpatient Unit – GOPU), following a technical presentation attended by hospital management and staff.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of ATBUTH, Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the hospital’s digital transformation agenda and a demonstration of its commitment to efficient, patient-centred healthcare services.

According to him, the DHS SmartQueue System introduces a structured and transparent patient queuing process that allows patients to obtain electronic queue tickets and access services in an orderly manner.

He explained that the system is expected to reduce congestion in waiting areas, improve clinic operations, enhance patient satisfaction, and provide real-time data to support monitoring and decision-making in service delivery.

Professor Jibrin added that the pilot phase at the GOPD would enable the hospital to assess the system’s effectiveness before its gradual expansion to other departments and service points within the facility.

He further disclosed that the DHS_Mobile App, which is available on the Google Play Store and will soon be accessible on the Apple App Store, allows patients to book appointments, access services, and make payments remotely, particularly for amenity services.

He noted that the application is currently in its pilot phase and requires a DHS eCard for access, advising patients to visit the hospital for registration and further guidance.

The Chief Medical Director also revealed that telemedicine services are being integrated into the platform and would soon be activated, allowing patients to consult healthcare professionals remotely and improving access to specialist care.

He said the introduction of the DHS_Mobile App and SmartQueue System aligns with ATBUTH’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance healthcare accessibility, efficiency, accountability, and overall patient experience.

The management commended the development team and all stakeholders involved in the project, reaffirming its commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions that strengthen healthcare delivery and position ATBUTH as a leading centre of excellence in medical services and digital innovation.
