The Bauchi State Government has dissolved the Management Committee of Wikki Tourist Football Club with immediate effect following the club's poor performance in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which culminated in its relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed approved the dissolution after a comprehensive review of the club's performance and the various interventions undertaken by the state government to preserve its top-flight status.
According to the government, the decision reflects its determination to reposition Wikki Tourist FC, restore public confidence in the club's administration, and lay a solid foundation for its immediate return to the elite division of Nigerian football.
Throughout the season, the Bauchi State Government provided the club with the necessary financial and administrative support to improve its competitiveness and overall performance. In a final effort to prevent relegation, the government constituted a Rescue Team during the closing stages of the season to complement the work of the Management Committee and help the club retain its NPFL status.
However, despite these interventions, the club was unable to avoid relegation to the Nigeria National League.
To reposition the club, Governor Mohammed has approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Bako, a former Bauchi State Director of Sports, as the Interim Sole Administrator of Wikki Tourist FC pending the appointment of a substantive management committee.
The Interim Sole Administrator is expected to assume responsibility for the administration of the club immediately, supervise the handover of all operations, assets, records, and liabilities, and initiate measures aimed at repositioning the club for improved performance ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria National League season.
The Bauchi State Government expressed appreciation to the outgoing Management Committee, led by Salmanu Abubakar, for its service to the club and wished its members success in their future endeavours.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to reviving Wikki Tourist FC, assuring supporters that it would continue to take all necessary steps to restore the club's status as one of Nigeria's leading football teams and secure its return to the Nigeria Premier Football League at the earliest opportunity.
