The African Democratic Congress, ADC, aspirant for Tudun Wada North Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Aliyu Musa Naibi, popularly known as Babawo, has declared that education and skills acquisition will be his number one priority if elected in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in Kaduna on Sunday, Babawo said the future of the constituency depends on investing in human capital, with special focus on women and youths who form the largest segment of the population.
"Education is the bedrock of any meaningful development and must be given the attention it deserves," he said. "If you educate our people, most of our social problems will become a thing of the past."
Babawo stressed that his proposed agenda is not a new campaign promise, but a scaling up of interventions he has already been implementing in the community.
He revealed that he personally sponsored the training of about 60 youths from Tudun Wada North as midwives and nurses.
"That is the sample we have seen and the results are clear," he said. "Right now, they are serving in various hospitals across the state and contributing to healthcare delivery."
The aspirant also disclosed that for the past four years he has operated a scholarship scheme for young women. Under the program, 60 girls under 20 years were sponsored to study in tertiary institutions, with priority given to health-related courses.
"Most of them have graduated. Some have secured jobs, while others are already offering professional services in our hospitals and clinics," Babawo added.
Babawo said if elected to the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2027, he will institutionalize these efforts through legislation and constituency projects aimed at reducing unemployment and insecurity.
He outlined a four-point plan for Tudun Wada North
Establishment of Skills Acquisition Centers To provide training in vocational trades, technical skills, and small and medium-scale entrepreneurship for youths currently searching for jobs.
Financial Assistance and Business Support To provide startup grants and soft loans to graduates of the skills programs to enable them establish and grow their own businesses.
Certification and Partnerships To collaborate with accredited training institutions to ensure beneficiaries receive certificates that meet national and global standards.
Expanded Scholarships for Women To increase sponsorship for women in tertiary education, particularly in nursing, midwifery, and other health-related fields, in order to bridge gaps in maternal and community healthcare.
According to him, the objective is to promote self-reliance and create opportunities that will keep youths productively engaged.
"Training our teeming youths in various skills will help curb drug addiction and political thuggery," he said. "If a young person has something doing, no amount of money will push him to commit crime. An idle mind is truly the devil's workshop."
Babawo explained that after training, beneficiaries would be supported to set up their own business premises so they can transition from job seekers to job creators.
The ADC aspirant urged voters in Kaduna State to elect candidates based on competence and track record rather than party lines.
"I task the people of Kaduna to vote for credible candidates who will work in the interest of the people, irrespective of the party they belong to," he said.
He also called on residents to pray for sustained peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the country.
"We must pray for the sustainability of peace and for the restoration of our dear nation Nigeria," he said.
