For residents of Kasuwar Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Friday ended in grief, fear, and uncertainty. A fresh attack on the community left an unknown number of people abducted, with others killed and injured — the latest in a string of violent incidents pushing farming and trading families to the edge.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Zamfara State Chapter, condemned the assault in a statement issued and signed by State Publicity Secretary, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa. The party said it received “with shock and deep sorrow” reports of the attack in the Kasuwar Daji Area Development Council.
State Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, said the violence has made daily life impossible for border communities.
“The killing, maiming, and kidnapping of innocent citizens is unacceptable,” Mai Katako said. “This unfortunate incident is yet another reminder of the fragile security situation in our state. Our people can no longer live in fear.”
For many in Kaura Namoda, fear has already forced hard choices. The NDC noted that repeated attacks in the border LGA have compelled many farmers to abandon their fields and traders to shut down markets — wiping out livelihoods and deepening hunger and poverty.
To stop the bleeding, the party presented a three-point demand to government authorities. The Zamfara State Government should increase patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and give more support to local vigilantes in Kaura Namoda LGA and all border communities so farmers can return to their farms.
The Federal Government and security agencies should send additional personnel and modern equipment to Zamfara to “decisively end banditry and kidnapping.”
Citizens and community leaders must work with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to prevent future attacks.
The NDC stressed that “the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government” and that ordinary people deserve to “farm, trade, and live peacefully without the threat of attack or abduction.”
Speaking for the party, Mai Katako extended condolences to the families of those affected, the people of Kasuwar Daji, Kaura Namoda LGA, and the Zamfara State Government. He prayed for “Aljannah Firdaus for the deceased, quick recovery for the injured, and the safe return of those kidnapped.”
The party added that it stands in solidarity with victims and remains committed to advocating for “peace, justice, and responsive governance.”
“May Allah restore lasting peace to our state and country,” the statement concluded.
