The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) was among the numerous ministries, departments, agencies, and parastatals that attended the launch of two books authored by the outgoing Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni.

The Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, was represented at the event by the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Haruna Jimoh Gabi.

The two books, I Planted: A Memoir of Purposeful Service and Beyond the Mandate: A Memoir on Leadership, Legacy, & Labour of Public Service, chronicle Mrs. Walson-Jack’s 34 years of experience, service, and reflections in the Nigerian public service.

The ceremony, held at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja, brought together distinguished personalities, top government officials, and captains of industry from across the country.

Speaking at the event, the author explained that the books were not written to glorify her tenure but to document her journey from serving as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Rivers State in 1992 to reaching the highest echelon of the Nigerian public service.

“Thirty-four years is long enough to plant institutions, systems and people, and to watch some of them grow taller than you. It is also long enough to make mistakes, to learn, to be humbled,” she said.

In his goodwill message delivered on behalf of the Managing Director, Dr. Gabi commended the outgoing Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for her exemplary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public service reforms, which, he noted, had contributed to strengthening efficiency and integrity in the Federal Civil Service.

He further noted that her legacy would continue to inspire public institutions, including N-HYPPADEC, to discharge their mandates effectively and uphold the principles of professionalism and accountability.

Dr. Gabi wished Mrs. Walson-Jack success in her future endeavours as she prepares to retire from the civil service, while expressing appreciation for her years of dedicated service to the nation.
