Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the release of two tranches of funds for the implementation of Ward Development Projects across the state’s 274 wards.
The governor gave the approval when he received a delegation of the 25 local government Ward Development Chairmen and other relevant officials, led by Alhaji Shuaibu Mairago, at the Government House in Minna.
Bago underscored the importance and impact of the initiative, particularly its role in promoting rural development and improving the lives of residents across the state.
He said the backlog of funds for the Ward Development Projects would be cleared to facilitate the implementation of projects at the ward level.
The governor said his administration was committed to delivering landmark projects across all 274 wards under its rural renewal drive, with the aim of directly impacting communities across the state.
Bago also pledged to increase the monthly allocation for the Ward Development Projects to enable the initiative achieve greater impact.
He, however, emphasised the need for Ward Development Project chairmen to liaise and coordinate with relevant government agencies, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency and the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), before embarking on projects.
According to him, such coordination would help prevent duplication and conflicts among projects being implemented by different government agencies.
The governor appreciated the chairmen for their patriotism and sacrifices in supporting the administration and contributing to the development of their communities.
He assured them of his continued support for the Ward Development Projects.
Kagara Commends Bago
Earlier, Alhaji Shehu Kagara commended Governor Bago for reviving the Ward Development Projects in the state, saying adequate funding of the initiative would further promote rural development.
He said the tranches already released had made significant impacts across the wards, and appealed to the governor to release additional funds to facilitate the implementation of more projects.
Kagara also urged Bago to increase the monthly disbursement for the projects to enable them achieve greater impact.
According to him, “The drive is deep and enormous; it is a strategic initiative that can secure victory for the Farmer Governor with ease; therefore, it should be sustained.”
He commended the leadership and staff of the Ministry for Rural Development, which oversees the Ward Development Projects, for their cooperation and support.
Kagara, a former federal lawmaker, assured Governor Bago of their continued support towards securing his re-election in the 2027 general elections.
