Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has assented to the 2026 Supplementary Appropriation Act for the state and its 27 local government councils, directing relevant government authorities to ensure the effective implementation of the additional budgetary provisions.
The signing ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the Government House in Dutse following the passage of the supplementary appropriation by the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
The supplementary appropriation provides ₦46.369 billion for the state and ₦17.109 billion for the 27 local government councils, bringing the total additional appropriation to ₦63.478 billion.
The supplementary provision comes against the backdrop of the state's initial 2026 budget of ₦901.84 billion, while the 27 local government councils had a combined initial budget of ₦288.85 billion.
Speaking after signing the legislation, Governor Namadi explained that the supplementary appropriation was necessitated by additional revenue that had accrued to the state. He said the additional funds were subsequently presented to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The governor said the additional resources would provide opportunities for both the state and local governments to execute more development projects.
“This has shown that the state has an opportunity to execute more projects, as well as also the local government,” he said.
Namadi commended the Speaker and members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly for their dedication and commitment to passing the supplementary appropriation, particularly the speed with which the legislative process was concluded.
He also appreciated the commissioners, ministries, departments and agencies, as well as the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, for their contributions to the process.
The governor subsequently urged relevant government institutions and officials to ensure that the budget was implemented in accordance with the provisions of the law.
“We thank all of you, and I call on all of you to ensure that this budget is implemented as assented,” he said.
He also urged the State House of Assembly to sustain its oversight responsibilities to ensure that the supplementary appropriation delivers the intended benefits to the people of Jigawa State.
“I want to call on the State House of Assembly to continue with their oversight function so as to ensure that this Appropriation Act benefits the people of Jigawa State,” he added.
Those present at the signing ceremony included the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatim; the Secretary to the State Government; the Head of Service; the Chief of Staff to the Governor; members of the State Executive Council; principal officers and members of the State House of Assembly; and other senior government officials.
