The detained leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky has described charges against him as ‘rubbish and nonsense’ during a court session at the Kaduna High Court.
The
ailing leader of the Islamic Movement alongside his wife, Malama Zeenah are
facing an eight-count charges bordering between homicide and breach of public
peace since 2018.
Counsel
to Sheikh Zakzaky, Femi Falana, SAN, is seeking the court to quash the charges
against the Islamic cleric.
During
the court session in Kaduna in the early hours of Tuesday, said the charges are
nothing less than “rubbish and nonsense”.
It
would be recalled that, a Federal High Court in Abuja in 2016 had ordered the
immediate release of the Islamic cleric who has been in detention since 2015.
An order, the Federal Government is yet to comply with.
The
Presiding Judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, has adjourned the case for hearing of
witnesses to 18th and 19th November, 2020.
Rubbish and nonsense indeed
