Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly Rt.Abubakar Y Suleiman has tasked the members-elect of Bauchi State House of Assembly to build their capacity and set solid agendas in order to give their constituencies the best and effective representation in the name of peace,democratic governance and growth for the overall development of the state and the nation at large.
The speaker made the remarks while delivering goodwill messages during the opening ceremony of Induction Workshop for Members-elect of Bauchi and Plateau States House of Assembly organized by a German NGO, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in collaboration with National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Fraser Suite, Abuja
The Speaker noted that the induction workshop will acquaint the members-elect who are majority first termers of the nitty gritty of legislative business.
He equally called on the participants from the two States to pay more attention to what the resource persons will teach so that they will acquire so much knowledge that will help them in delivering the mandate given to them by their various constituents.
Speaker Abubakar Y Suleima pointed out that the 10th Assembly of Bauchi State is filled with resourceful and energetic members, thus he is confident that it will be one of the best or even the best in the Country.
While narrating how he personally conceived the idea and worked hard to ensure that Bauchi Assembly members-elect joined the beneficiary States of the induction, commended the German NGO, KAS, for accepting to include Bauchi State and the NILDS for collaborating in facilitating the induction workshop.
In his remarks, the Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) Professor Abubakar O. Suleiman said that the induction programme has been organised by the Konrad
Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) to enable the members-elect to understand their roles, responsibilities, and the
functioning of the legislature.
He reminded the members-elect that their constituents who elected them expect that they will actively advocate for their interests, therefore they must understand the scope and limitations of their powers to make laws for the order and good governance of the State as constitutionally stipulated.
Earlier speaking, the Resident Representative of KAS in Nigeria Marija Peran stated that the Organization's main interest and investment are in strengthening legislative capacity in Nigeria.
While narrating the importance of the workshop to the two States, she highlighted some of the issues to discuss during the workshop which include Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Concept of Separation of Powers, Legislative Functions, Process, Powers, Ethics and Privileges, Legislative Agenda and Benchmarking the Activities of the State Assembly, Parliamentary Protocols, Standing Orders, Motions and Debates, Mock Session on Inauguration, among many others,the statement revealed
