Bauchi State has concluded the rice palliative distribution exercise that commenced last September amidst encomiums from beneficiaries and other key stakeholders in the State.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Honourable Hajara Yakubu Wanka, in a close-out ceremony on Thursday 28th December, 2023 held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, said that the distribution committee had done justice to the confidence reposed in it and had carried out the exercise inline with it’s terms of reference.

Wanka informed the gathering that the distribution exercise was carried out by the high-powered committee set up by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, under the leadership of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr.) Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu and the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Right Honorable Mohammad Auwal Jatau.

She said that the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management was mandated by the committee to spare head the distribution exercise across the entire state using the 12 beneficiaries per polling unit across all the 323 wards of the State.

She said that since the commencement of the distribution program, her ministry and the agencies and departments under it have deployed its human resources to actualise the exercise and that it had done that to the best of its ability under the guidance of the Emir of Bauchi and the Deputy Governor.

“In the course of the distribution exercise, myself and the entire ministry staff have travelled around the entire LGAs of the State”.

“At the end of the exercise all the polling units were reached and the 12 beneficiaries selected from each polling unit got a 25kg bag of rice”, said the Commissioner.

Wanka then used the occasion to express the gratitude of the Committee to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his support in providing all the necessary logistics needed for the successful implementation of the exercise.

While appreciating the support of the support of Governor, the Commissioner also acknowledged the key roles played by the five Emirate councils in the State in the successes recorded during the distribution exercise across the State.

The Commissioner further registered her gratitude to LG Caretaker Committee Chairmen for their proactive stance in providing the enabling environment that enhanced the distribution exercise in their LGAs.

“Worthy of mention too was the role of security operatives that had been with the distribution team throughout the exercise, ensuring rancour-free implementation”.

“It is heart-warming to acknowledge the joy and happiness demonstrated by beneficiaries throughout the State. There were so many glowing testimonies from beneficiaries and other key stakeholders”.

“My speech will not be complete without, once again, expressing my personal gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the Committee for entrusting this Humanitarian exercise to my ministry. This has really enhanced my capacity for future engagements with the citizens of Bauchi State, especially the less privileged and vulnerable in our rural areas”, the Commissioner concludes her address.

This medium reports that the closing event targets the last three Wards of Hardo, Majidadi A and Dawaki in Bauchi LGA being given their shares of the rice palliative.
