The law is bigger than anyone, even its maker, but when interests conflict with the law, the law becomes a puppet in the hands of the people.
The power tussle in Kano is ridiculing in the 21st century of our time.
When does the law becomes toy in the hands of the makers of the law?
With a court order from Federal High Court stopping reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the case at the confine of the court, that is enough to save the people of Kano from unwanted jeopardy.
The traditional quest of the titans continue to foster disunity in Kano among the kinsmen, the two emirs and their supporters destroying the valuable image of Kano powerful emirate of all times.
While the two kinsmen claim right of the emirate seat, the powerful Kano emirate becomes a game of throne between the two powerful gladiators.
Like the judge said, “the parties are hereby ordered to maintain status quo ante the passage the and assent of the bill into pending hearing of the Fundamental Rights application.”
And, why the law should not be allowed to bring sanity to Kano?
The hyperbolic reaction of the two emirs in Kano by virtue of the law will gradually generate chaos and escalate the relative peace among the people of Kano. For good, they must give peace a chance before the sky falls.
For truth, I am not for any side but for the appeal of the High Court and the rule of law. On this, there is a need for all hands to be on deck.
But, I want shade more light on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf mere reason for removing Emir Aminu Ado Bayero for a campaign promise. The basic reason is completely irrelevant and unfounded for expelling a public officer in any constitutional context.
Indeed, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero must have a reason to jostle in the palace. And, by virtue of the court order, Aminu Ado Bayero has a reason to demand for his throne.
The protests on streets and the two emirs in one palace stains the cultural heritage of Hausa land to jest for interest and is time for Kano government to toe the line.
The power of politics, and the campaign promise of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is setting Kano on fire because of vanquish of political vengeance. And, is this how Kano emirate council will continue to lies on campaign promises? It simply means no one is safe even a mayor in Kano.
Traditional emirates supposed to be like barracks; soldier come, soldier go, but barrack remind.
History has the story of how powerful emirs were distooled for constitutional reason.
Ibrahim Dasuki, the 18th Sultan of Sokoto was deposed in 1996 by the military government of Sani Abacha and the sky didn't fall on anyone.
Like what Folaranmi Ajayi wrote, “the history of dethronement particularly in the Northern part of the country has been around for ages, the dethronement of traditional rulers referred back to the early 1900, when some emirs from the North refused to pledge allegiance to the colonial administrators, as a result, many of them were dethroned and banished from their respective kingdoms” for political insubordination.
Mustapha Jokolo, a retired military officer ascended the throne of Gwandu kingdom in 1995. He was the 19th emir of Gwandu, and spent 10 years on the throne. He was dethroned in June 2005, by the Government of Kebbi State on accused of insubordination. Furthermore, he was moved to Obi in Nasarawa State.
Muhammad Sanusi I was the emir of Kano in 1954 after the death of his father, emir Abdullahi Bayero.
Muhammad Sanusi 1 was accused of insubordination by the Northern Nigeria administrators, and was dethroned in April 1963 and asked to leave for Azare, in Bauchi State.
Emir Abubakar Dallaje of Katsina was removed from throne in 1906, by Sir Fredrick Lugard, who was then the Governor General of Northern protectorate. Late emir Abubakar was accused of insubordination and refusing to pledge allegiance to the colonial administrators.
The deposed emir Muhammadu Sanusi was found of breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano emirate Law 2019.
The tussle became apparent when the Governor sent a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to add four additional emirates, in the State.
On March, 9, 2020, the Government of Kano State announced the dethronement of Muhammad Sanusi II, on grounds of political insubordination and nailing the government of the day. And, can Sanusi remind silence on governance and people? Emir Sanusi is a critic of all, and he is fond of doing it.
But, on the side of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the removal of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is for political promise, and can this fetch us fortunes when our heritage and legacy left by the colonial masters become political campaign promises. This is unjust, rejected, denounce and abuse on Hausa land, and only the sons and daughters of the land can save the land from this collapse.
At this time, government; State and Federal should employ good mechanism to settle the emeritship warfare for security reason, law, peace and answer the call of the court .
