The National President of the Maize Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Annur, says arrangements have been made by the association for the mobilization and education of farmers across the nation on modern farming methods. He said it was meant to boost the cultivation of maize in the country in line with best practices to reduce losses and expand benefits.
The National President added that plans are underway by the Association to provide high-quality improved seeds, spraying chemicals, and fertilizer to its member farmers for better yields. Alhaji Bello Annur advised farmers to avoid delays in the cultivation of maize, urging them to always commence farming early.
According to the National President, early commencement of cultivation by farmers prevents losses due to lack of rainfall at the end of the rainy season. He also called on the federal and state governments to provide farming inputs and other financial support to the farmers in good time, as late support would cause problems for them.
