Zamfara State Gov. Dauda Lawal has warned workers in the state against involving themselves in any act of corruption and collecting multiple salaries.
The Governor gave the warning during the workers' day celebration held in Gusau on Wednesday, saying that the Zamfara State workforce was overloaded with multiple salary collectors.
"I am not impressed with workers' take home and working conditions in the state but I must be certain with the figure of genuine workers to decide what to pay as minimum wage, therefore, organized labour should continue to bear with us and support our policies and programs toward achieving better condition for the workers.
"We are in the process of authenticating the real staff of both State and local government once we fish out ghost workers, multiple salary earners and other irregularities, a new minimum wage will be announced.
"Our policies are not meant to witch hunt anybody but to implement good reforms in the public service and other sectors of the State's economy".
He said so far he had paid a total of N3.841billion backlog of gratuities and pensions to the state and local government employees.
The governor said his administration would continue until all backlog of pensions and gratuities are paid completely.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Zamfara State Chapter comrade Sani Haliru commended the effort of Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing the lingering security challenges under low economic status and yet can execute capital projects across the state.
"The NLC sincerely appreciate your kind gesture towards paying retirees backlog of their gratuities and timely payment of salaries, "as grateful workers, we must commend the effort you put into giving the required attention to civil servants in the state.
Above all Zamfara workers still face the following challenges; Delay in promotions, Non-implementation of annual increments on and minimum wage and wage awards across the board."
It is in the interest of the Governor to note that only in Zamfara workers received less than N7,000 as monthly salaries for more than two decades."
