The Jumu'at Mosque Imams Forum of Niger State, the Niger State Council of Ulamah, leaders of various Islamic organizations in Niger State, and the parents of the 100 intending brides converged at the Ummah Centre in Minna to deliberate on the lingering issue of the court injunction and petition issued against the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, at the request of the Minister of Women Affairs for sponsoring the planned marriage of 100 orphans in Mariga L.G.A.
"After lengthy deliberation, the meeting resolved as follows: the marriage solemnization of 100 orphans will take place on 24th May 2024 as planned. This is because the planned marriage does not violate either the Constitution of the land or Islamic tenets", the statement reiterated.
They also demands a public apology from the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, within 7 days or legal action will be taken against her.
"The meeting called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to, as a matter of urgency, disengage the Minister to avoid a religious crisis in the country.
"We also called on well-to-do individuals in society and politicians to emulate the Speaker's gesture".
The meeting finally called on Muslims in the state to remain law-abiding citizens as Islamic scholars and leaders are on top of the situation.
