The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Niger State, has received yet another shocking and painful report of banditry attacks in the villages of Lanta, Tunga, Dnakau, and Juweedna in Erena, Shiroro Local Government Area.
The attacks occurred on Thursday, 20th June 2024, at about 5:36 PM. Many cattle and sheep were rustled, but no cases of kidnapping were reported. However, many houses in Lanta village were burned down by the bandits.
About 600 displaced persons from the affected villages are currently in the Erena and Kuta IDP camps, being profiled.
In a similarly sad incident, the ministry received a report of a boat mishap on the River Niger (Kippo) in Mokwa Local Government Area. The mishap claimed the lives of two fishermen, brothers from the same parents, who were on board the boat fishing at about 10 PM.
The cause of the mishap was said to be heavy rainfall and a windstorm that occurred on the fateful day.
