Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Adamawa State slated for July 13, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to produce 21 women as chairmanship running mates for the council elections.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is the leader of the PDP in Adamawa, gave the directive during a stakeholders' meeting of the party held at Government House, Yola on Tuesday.
The Governor stressed that the party will continue to recognize the contributions of women, and therefore his administration will accord them the attention they deserve.
Fintiri warned the stakeholders against any act of sabotage or anti-party activities during the conduct of the local government polls, pointing out that such attitudes are inimical to the PDP.
He called on those who indulged in such acts to use this period to correct the damage they have done to the party during the last 2023 governorship election.
“I want everyone not to repeat what happened during the last governorship election. Handle it with all sense of commitment and without any lackadaisical attitude,” said Fintiri.
Governor Fintiri urged the candidates who may lose the primary election to accept it in good faith, calling on PDP stakeholders to ensure a free and fair conduct of the party’s primary elections.
In his remarks, the PDP State Chairman, Barrister Tahir Shehu, said the meeting was called to discuss matters regarding the party's preparations ahead of the local government election.
He said the party intends to go around the state and campaign for the election, calling on the contestants to embrace whoever emerges as the PDP flag bearers for chairmanship and councilorship positions.
Shehu noted that leadership is an act of destiny and God gives it to whoever He wants, and therefore charged all the stakeholders to ensure the process is conducted successfully without any element of rancor.
