The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has invited district heads to participate in the durbar, a traditional event celebrating Sallah.
The announcement was made in a circular signed by Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, Galadiman Kano, a senior councilor of the emirate, on Tuesday.
Dated June 10, 2024, the circular instructed all district heads to bring their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers to the event.
It reads, “We are directing all the district heads of the emirate to come along with their village head, their horse riders and phrase singer for the festivities.
“Also we are directing all the district heads to converge at Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace at Gidan Nassarawa on Saturday, Zhulhijjah 9, 1445 equivalent to June 15 at 11am for further directives without delay or insubordination.
“After the the day’s court sitting, the emir will meet with all the district heads at the palace’s hall at Gidan Nassarawa intended to shed light on how this year’s durbar activities will roll out.”
The circular added that local government chairmen had been informed of the development to aide smooth transportation of the district heads into Kano metroplis.
However, 7 out of the 8 district heads in Kano emirate have publicly pledged allegiance to Emir Sanusi.
Also, the local government chairmen whom the circular said were informed of the development belong to the NNPP government which dethroned him and all the chairmen have pledged allegiance to his successor, Sanusi II.
It is not clear if the district heads will answer Ado Bayero’s call or they will side with Emir Sanusi and the Kano state government.
