A group under the auspices of Sahelian Youth Forum for Good Governance and Advocacy (SYFGGA) has commended the Rivers State Governor, Fubara Siminalayi for his recent bold and commendable decision to swear in the Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen in the state.
The National President of the Group, Comrade Aminu Harsanu Guyaba said at a press conference held at NUJ Secretariat Bauchi yesterday, noted with delight that the decisive action was taken by Governor Fubara despite the attempts by former chairmen to cling to power even after exhausting their constitutional limits.
Comrade Aminu Harsanu Guyaba recalled that Fubara has since his assumption to office on May 29, 2023, been demonstrating exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the progress and development of Rivers State.
Fubara's administration, the group pointed out, has been marked by numerous achievements that have positively impacted on the lives of Rivers state citizens, spanning from infrastructure development to healthcare improvements and economic empowerment.
The group further explained, "Governor Fubara's dedication to serving the people of Rivers State is evident in every step he takes. We appreciate his doggedness and resilience in the face of challenges."
Guyaba said that It is disheartening to see some unscrupulous elements are working behind the scenes to distract Governor Fubara from the good work he has been doing since his assumption to office last year.
He frowned, "These elements, having exhausted their own tenure, seek to continue exerting control over the state. This is not only undemocratic but also detrimental to the progress and stability of Rivers State".
The group therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who himself served as a two-term governor, to understand the implementation of external control over a governor and the potential it can cause to the state's governance and development, to address this pressing issue in Rivers state .
"We urge Mr. President to use his good office to ensure that Governor Fubara is allowed to govern without undue interference. We also call on the National Assembly to urgently look into the matter in Rivers State", the group pleaded.
"It is imperative that Governor Fubara is given the space to work diligently for his people and provide them with the dividends of democracy. Legislative intervention is crucial to maintaining the sanctity of our democratic processes and ensuring that the will of the people is respected".
The group similarly extended its heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed caretaker committee chairmen, and urged them to perform their duties diligently and uphold the confidence that His Excellency, Governor Fubara has placed in them.
It further urged the people of Rivers state to remain calm and law-abiding citizens, saying Governor Fubara is committed to their welfare, and will continue to do everything possible to protect lives and properties.
"Let us all support Governor Siminalayi Fubara in his quest to build a better Rivers State. Together, we can overcome the challenges and create a brighter future for all", Guyaba concluded.
