The Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, has inaugurated a 27-member Farmers-Herders Peace Committee in the Dutse Local Government Area.
During the inauguration, the SSG stated that the initiative is part of the state government's efforts to mitigate clashes between farmers and herders in Baranda village and its neighboring communities, thereby enhancing productivity in both crop and livestock agriculture.
Malam Bala Ibrahim explained that the committee is responsible for educating community members on the importance of peaceful coexistence.
"For fairness and equity, all interested stakeholders are included in the committee, including traditional rulers, Imams, herdsmen, farmers, security outfits, and others," the SSG said.
The SSG urged the committee members to be fair and just in discharging their responsibilities and to justify the trust and confidence placed in them while praying for their success.
"Let me assure all the citizens of the affected communities that the committee, headed by the District Head of Dutse, Alhaji Jamilu Basiru Sanusi, will be just in making peace between farmers and herders in the area," he said.
Responding on behalf of the committee members, the Chairman of the Committee and District Head of Dutse, Alhaji Jamilu Basiru Sanusi, expressed delight at the appointment and pledged to give their best and justify the confidence placed in them.
Members of the committee include Usman Muhammad Jahun, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters; an Army representative, Garrison Commander; Police representative ACP Garba Tukur; DSS representative; NSCDC representative Supol Rufai Dashe; and a representative of the Surveyor General.
Other members are representatives of herders in Baranda and its neighboring communities: Alhaji Isa, Alhaji Umaru, Mati Maiunguwa, Maiunguwa Bati, Alhaji Sale Kwarai, Alhaji Yunusa Maiunguwa, Hassan Ibrahim, Ruwaji Ibrahim, and Ubale Saba.
Representatives of farmers include Alhaji Ado Hara, Malam Audu Kafinta, Ma'awiya Abdullahi, Yusuf Agenda, Isyaku Sa'adu Katanga, Sale Barau, Aliyu Muhammad Kwaimawa, Safiyanu Ahmadu, and Ado Kazaba, while Mustapha Isa, a staff officer at Dutse Local Government Council, will serve as Secretary of the Committee.
