A member of the House of Representatives representing Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda federal constituency in Zamfara North, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, has described local government autonomy as a vital tool for community empowerment. He highlighted the benefits of local government autonomy, which include improved service delivery, increased local revenue, economic growth and development, enhanced community participation, better security and conflict resolution, accountability and transparency, and tailored developmental projects.

Hon. Sani Jaji emphasized that local governments can respond to community needs more effectively, explore local revenue sources, invest in local economies to create jobs, and foster community involvement in decision-making. He noted that local governments could address local security concerns, ensure accountability to their constituents, and initiate projects addressing local needs, thereby reducing poverty and inequality. Improved infrastructure and amenities, empowerment of local leaders, and decentralization of power were also cited as significant benefits, promoting innovative solutions to local challenges, investment in local healthcare and education, environmental sustainability, and effective disaster response and management.

Honorable Sani Jaji made these statements during a public lecture and interaction session organized by the Zamfara State Student Association (ZAMSSA), Ahmadu Bello University chapter, on Saturday, where he was the guest speaker. He stated that granting local governments autonomy allows communities to enjoy these benefits, leading to improved overall well-being and development.

In the same vein, Hon. Jaji commended the organizers of the important public lecture and the entire management of the university for their unwavering support and commitment to ensuring the success of the program. He urged students to be good ambassadors of their families, university, society, and the country, particularly representing their institution of learning, which is now considered one of the most profound universities in the country.

Hon. Jaji emphasized the importance of youth participation in governance, describing it as a symbol of the future, fostering mentorship and inclusivity. He warned against subversive agents who seek to destroy the future and ruin society by recruiting youth to engage in irresponsible behavior. He urged students to be responsible and sound in their reasoning, and careful in dealing with issues affecting their well-being. Some individuals use social media to justify their actions and spread lies to serve their interests, he said.

"As someone from Zamfara state, I know the extent of the devastation in our state, with socioeconomic activities grinding to a halt due to insecurity. We must come together to contribute to the development of our state and the nation."

Finally, Hon. Jaji addressed the planned nationwide protest, stating that it is not in the best interest of the region or the nation. He advised students not to allow anyone to use them in the name of protest. While acknowledging the hardships being experienced in the country, he assured that leaders are working round the clock to address these issues through various interventions. He urged everyone to shun any calls for protest.
