The Acting Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has expressed his deep gratitude to all stakeholders and residents of the state for their restraint in refraining from active participation in the recent nationwide protest.
In a statewide broadcast, Comrade Garba commended the people of Niger State for choosing the path of dialogue and demonstrating a commitment to unity and mutual respect. He noted that these actions reflect the essence of collective dedication to the progress and development of the state.
"It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today to express our heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders and residents of our great state for restraining yourselves from active participation in the recent protest and choosing the path of dialogue. Your commitment to unity, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue is not just commendable, but it is the very essence of our collective dedication to the progress and development of Niger State. You, the esteemed stakeholders and residents, are the driving force behind our state's progress," Garba stated.
He extended special thanks to the people—young and old, male and female—as well as to the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Students Union Government (SUG), National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), Artisan Association, Traditional Leaders, Imams Forum, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Vigilante Group, Road Transport Union, Marketers Association, and other key stakeholders. He emphasized that their decision to honour their commitment and refrain from participating in the nationwide protest exemplifies their role as true partners in progress.
The Acting Governor also commended the Commissioner of Police, heads of other security agencies, and the vigilante group for their relentless efforts and sacrifices to ensure the safety and stability of communities during the period.
He praised the media and all practicing journalists in the state for their tireless efforts in promoting government initiatives through their reportage.
The Acting Governor assured residents of Niger State that the present administration is deeply committed to their welfare and well-being. He highlighted initiatives such as the sale of grains at a 50 percent discount across all 25 local government areas as part of ongoing efforts to support the people, adding that more initiatives would soon be rolled out.
While acknowledging the concerns of the citizens, Garba promised that the state government would convey their feelings and aspirations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ensure that their interests are represented at the national level.
"We will not hesitate to engage with the Federal Government to address the challenges facing our state and nation," he affirmed.
He urged everyone to continue to show understanding and maintain faith in the administration, which is determined to adopt innovative approaches to governance. He welcomed constructive criticism aimed at enhancing the overall development of the state, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
