Former Bauchi Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia J. Shehu Gar, has been elected as the new chairperson of the Executive Directors' Forum, known as "EDs Forum," in Bauchi State.
Mrs. Lydia Gar, Executive Director of Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development (RISD), won the election with 11 votes, defeating her opponent, Dr. Briskila O. Emefesi of BEWOF, who received 5 votes.
Daily Struggles Newspaper reports that the election required a second round after both candidates initially scored 7-7 votes each, with 2 invalid votes out of the 16 cast by members.
The Election Committee Chairman, Itanola Abdulfatai Adeyemi, Executive Director of Rensy Foundation, declared the first round inconclusive and ordered a re-run. In the second round, Mrs. Lydia Gar emerged victorious with 11 votes against Dr. Briskila's 5 votes, with 2 invalid votes out of 18 cast.
Others elected unopposed to various positions include Maikudi Mustapha from the Center for Environment and Community Health Development as Vice Chairperson, Rashida Musa Mukaddas from Women Child Youth Health Education Initiative as Secretary, Sagir Shehu Mustapha from Patriotic for Community Development Initiative as Financial Secretary, Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu from Adolescent Health and Information Project as PRO, Blessing Ogonyi from World Changers Exceptional Organization as Assistant Secretary, and Maryann Emmanuel from Megan Heart Community Development Initiative as Treasurer.
Abdulfatai explained that the new executives are expected to lead the EDs Forum for a three-year tenure from July 31, 2024, to July 31, 2026.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Lydia expressed her delight over the mandate given to her by members, promising to carry everyone along and to operate an open-door policy, ensuring transparency and strengthening the forum.
Dr. Briskila Emefesi, who lost the election, thanked and appreciated the voters for their commitment and congratulated Mrs. Lydia. She expressed her excitement about participating in the election, noting that while losing is difficult, it is part of the journey in her political life.
The outgoing chairperson, Malam Sodangi Chindo, commended the electoral committee for conducting a successful election and praised both candidates for their dedication and sportsmanship.
