The member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde local governments at the National Assembly, Rt. Honourable Kwamoti La'ori, organized a three-day workshop for 150 women from these areas through the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), which concluded on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Speaking at the workshop's closing ceremony, Kwamoti B. La'ori emphasized the timely nature of the event, highlighting the critical need for peacebuilding and stability in Nigeria.
"Because of the importance of women, we started with you. Through this training, we have learned many things that will help us and our families and neighbours to live in peace in this area, our state, and the country as a whole," La'ori said.
He continued, "You call yourselves Kwamoti Peace Ambassadors, so fulfil your duties. The women of my constituents are the first to take such initiatives. Women across Nigeria should emulate the women of my constituency. I am doing the right thing and will continue to do so. Anything that will help the community, especially women, I will bring to you."
On the topic of protests, Hon. La'ori acknowledged the legal right to protest but cautioned against participating, referencing the violent incidents during the Palliative protests.
"Remember what happened a few months ago during the Palliative protest. Bad intentions are waiting to exploit such events, leading to destruction and loss of lives. The protestors are calling out to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. Our governor is trying to help us and has done what he needs to do. Let's address our grievances in Abuja," said La'ori.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Hon. James Illiya, praised Hon. La'ori's commitment and efforts for the area's people. "This is a commendable initiative. We thank you and will continue to support you. If women build peace and community, the benefits are immense. You have provided farmers with fertilizers and women with training and financial support for businesses. We must spread the word about your activities," said Illiya.
Representing the Director General of the IPCR, Barrister Paul Gwoza commended Hon. La'ori for organizing the event. "On behalf of the DG, we thank you for taking the responsibility to organize this event. Over these three days, we have gained significant insights. We are confident that the trained women will return to their communities and effectively resolve conflicts. If more people were like you, Sir, there would be fewer protests," said Paul.
The beneficiaries, in their separate remarks, wished Hon. La'ori all the best and applauded him for the opportunity. They assured me that they would disseminate their newfound knowledge to the 30 wards and unit levels.
Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, James Iliya; Chairmen of Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde LGAs; Member Representing Numan Constituency, Rt. Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo; Member Representing Lamurde Constituency, Hon. Bauna Myandasa; former Member House of Representatives, Talatu Yohannah; former Member Representing Lamurde Constituency, Hon. Mike Zidon; Representative of the Hama Bacham, Dr. P. P. Power; and Senior Special Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Food Security, Dr. Dishi Khobe Mitikishe, among others.
