The Niger State Police Command has arrested eleven violent protesters following an incident at the Tafa Local Government Area (LGA) Secretariat. The protestors, described as miscreants, were apprehended in Tafa, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State, and Hayin-Diko in Gurara LGA of Niger State.

According to a press statement issued by the Police through the spokesperson, SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the protesters mobilized and stormed the Tafa LGA Secretariat, located along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Sabon-Wuse, Niger State. The protesters vandalized the Secretariat, set parts of the building on fire, and burned two cars while vandalizing two others. They also looted valuables from the premises.

Police and other security agencies responded promptly to the scene. Eleven violent protesters were arrested, and dangerous weapons, including firearms, were seized. Some of the looted items were recovered.

The statement also noted that the police and other security agencies addressed the blockade on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway near the old toll gate, successfully dispersing the hoodlums. The expressway has since been reopened for motorists, and traffic is flowing freely.

An investigation into the violent acts is underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects. The Police Command has issued a warning to the public, urging parents and residents to monitor their wards. The Command reiterated that violent demonstrations, destruction of public property, and looting will not be tolerated, and any act of lawlessness will be strictly dealt with according to the law.
