The wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has called on the Zamfara State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) to intensify their efforts in farming to combat the food crisis and hunger affecting the nation.

Hajiya Huriyya made this appeal on Wednesday during the World Food Day celebration in Gusau.

"I am ready to assist farmers in the state, especially women, to ensure Zamfara continues to live up to its agricultural reputation," she said, referring to the state's slogan 'farming is our pride'. She also announced plans for annual inter-local government farm product carnivals to boost agricultural production.

The First Lady emphasized that the current socioeconomic crisis could be alleviated if farmers increase their output, assuring the public that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is committed to supporting farmers across the state.

In her remarks, the State Coordinator of NAWIA, Hajiya Shema'u Nalado, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her support and concern for the association. She noted that women in Zamfara are increasingly taking up agricultural activities, traditionally dominated by men, due to their growing commitment to the farming business.

Hajiya Nalado also addressed the challenges farmers face, particularly the impact of insecurity on farming activities, which has contributed to food shortages in the country.

She acknowledged that the United Nations has designated October 16th as World Food Day to highlight global food security issues, and Zamfara State has joined the rest of the world in observing this important day.
