The people of Azza Community in the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State have issued a passionate appeal to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, urging him to prioritize the reconstruction of the Muye-Gulu road as a matter of urgency.

Residents and motorists made the appeal in separate interviews with journalists in Minna. They emphasized that reconstructing this major alternative route to Kogi State would significantly alleviate motorists' hardships.

Aliyu Umar, a driver, described the less-than-fifty-kilometre road as a "nightmare and death trap" for over a decade, highlighting the pressing need for attention from a compassionate leader who understands the livelihood challenges his people face.

Another driver, Alhaji Ndatsu Musa, explained that he has been using this route daily from Muye to Lapai to Minna for about fifteen years. He lamented that due to the deteriorating condition of the road, he now frequents the mechanic workshop weekly and urgently calls for government intervention.

A trader and passenger expressed frustration over high transportation costs, which were driven by recent fuel price hikes and poor road conditions, which also increased the cost of vehicle parts. The trader appealed to Governor Bago to expedite the reconstruction of the Gulu-Muye road.

Community leader Malam Muhammad Baba also implored the state government to consider reconstructing the road, especially the section from Muye, due to its severe deterioration, which has burdened residents for over a decade.

It is worth noting that since the initial construction of the Gulu-Muye road in Lapai, no significant rehabilitation has been undertaken. The road's current state of disrepair has rendered it a dangerous "death trap" for more than ten years.
