Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, the newly appointed Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST), has pledged to leverage his administrative expertise to advance the institute to new heights.
Dr. Imam made this commitment while addressing the agency's management and staff shortly after assuming office as DG/CEO at NILEST Headquarters on Tuesday, November 11, 2023.
The Director General emphasized that under his leadership, the institute would play a pivotal role in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic, innovation, and technology agenda. He noted that NILEST graduates and ambassadors, equipped with specialized skills, would drive the institute's mandate for research and national development.
Dr. Imam outlined his vision for NILEST as a tertiary training and research institute specializing in the manufacturing, processing, and production of leather and allied products using science and technology. He underscored the potential for significant contributions to the nation's economy through these efforts.
He reaffirmed his commitment to an open-door policy, inviting input from all members of the community and soliciting the support of both staff and students to fulfill his responsibilities effectively.
Dr. Imam also pledged to enhance staff welfare and create a conducive teaching and learning environment at the institute. In addition to the current diploma and certificate programs, he announced plans to introduce degree programs in partnership with relevant ministries and agencies.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Imam expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajuddeen Abbas, for entrusting him with this mandate, and he assured them of his dedication to executing his duties effectively.
