Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has signed the 2025 appropriation bill totaling over N1.558 trillion into law.

The signing ceremony took place just hours after the State Assembly passed the budget, completing the process in under a week.

In his remarks, Governor Bago commended the legislators for their swift scrutiny and passage of the bill, describing their efforts as unprecedented. He noted that the leadership of the 10th State Assembly has set a commendable standard for the nation.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the legislative arm of government. He also urged the legislators to utilize their oversight functions effectively to ensure the executive arm complies with the provisions of the budget.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, revealed that the assembly had begun budget screening three months prior. He credited the speedy passage of the bill to the exceptional performance of the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mustapha Ndajiwo.

The Speaker praised Ndajiwo for diligently adhering to due process, which streamlined the assembly’s work. He highlighted the assembly’s role in ensuring judicious allocation of resources and expressed gratitude for the governor's support to the legislature.

Speaker Sarkin-Daji assured Governor Bago that the 10th Assembly would continue to strengthen its cordial relationship with the executive arm for the realization of the administration’s vision for a "New Niger."

Governor Bago had initially presented the 2025 budget, titled "The Budget of Hope for Food Security and Sustainability," to the State Assembly on December 12, 2024. At the time, the Speaker had pledged to work diligently to ensure its swift passage.
