Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has urged the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Kontagora, to make deliberate efforts to address the educational gap in the Niger North Senatorial District.
Governor Bago made this appeal while receiving members of the Governing Council and Management team of the university at the Government House in Minna.
He emphasized the pressing need to close the wide educational gap in the Niger North Senatorial District and suggested that the university establish short-term courses to address the issue effectively.
The governor also highlighted the importance of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, serving as a mentor to other institutions in the region.
Assuring the university of his administration's continued support, Governor Bago directed the Chairman of the New Niger Development Project and the Commissioner for Works to collaborate with the university on the construction of a 3-kilometer access road to the institution.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Francis Adedayo Faduyile, commended the governor's significant contributions to the conversion of the institution into a Federal University.
Prof. Faduyile announced that the university had named its 1,000-capacity lecture theatre as the Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago Lecture Theatre and one of its female hostels after the First Lady of Niger State, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, in recognition of their commitment to revamping education.
He explained that the gesture reflected the alignment of the governor’s vision for educational transformation with the university’s objectives.
Prof. Faduyile also disclosed that the university had allocated over 15 hectares of land to support the state government’s agricultural agenda, which aims to enhance food security. He appealed for assistance with fertilizers and other farming inputs to maximize the potential of the allocated land.
The chairman reaffirmed the university’s commitment to working closely with the state government to achieve shared goals in education and development.
