The Hauwa Baƙo Foundation marked this year’s World Diabetes Day with a one-day free medical outreach held at the Zazzau Emir Palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The event, themed "Diabetes and Well-being," provided free medical services to over 500 beneficiaries. Services included blood glucose screening, cholesterol testing, blood pressure measurement, biothesiometry, and the distribution of free medication.
The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who also serves as the Foundation's Grand Patron, praised the initiative and stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent and manage diabetes.
“Diabetes is a major public health concern, and it is essential that we take proactive steps to prevent and manage the disease,” the Emir stated. He described the outreach program as a testament to the transformative impact of collective efforts in addressing public health challenges. He urged the community to continue working together to promote health and well-being.
Dr. Hauwa Baƙo, the foundation's founder, highlighted the program's goal of raising awareness about diabetes while offering vital medical services to the public.
“We are committed to promoting healthcare and wellness in our community, and we believe that this outreach program is a step in the right direction,” Dr. Baƙo remarked.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the services provided. Meron Dan Madami, one of the recipients, shared her appreciation: “I am grateful for the free medical services provided by the Hauwa Baƙo Foundation. This outreach program has helped me to know my health status and take necessary precautions.”
The outreach attracted a significant turnout from the public, who lauded the Foundation's efforts in improving healthcare access and awareness.
World Diabetes Day, observed annually on November 14, aims to raise global awareness about diabetes and inspire action to tackle the disease and its complications. The Hauwa Baƙo Foundation’s outreach is one among many initiatives demonstrating a commitment to improving public health in Nigeria.
