During a crucial debate on the 2025 Appropriation Bill presented by His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu (GCFR) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori strongly advocated for a significant increase in budgetary allocations to agriculture and food security.

Laori expressed concern over the inadequate provisions for agriculture in the proposed budget, particularly when compared to the substantial funding allocated to national defense and security. While acknowledging the importance of security, he stressed that food production and agricultural development are equally critical to national stability and growth.

The legislator highlighted that investing in agriculture goes beyond boosting food supply. It is a strategic approach to addressing Nigeria's persistent unemployment crisis, as the sector holds immense potential to create millions of jobs, especially for the youth. Laori emphasized that prioritizing agriculture could provide sustainable livelihoods, stimulate economic growth, and reduce poverty across the nation.

He also called for a balanced allocation of resources to ensure comprehensive development across all sectors. "We must allocate resources in a manner that uplifts agriculture and food security without compromising other critical areas," Laori stated. By enhancing funding for agriculture, the country could significantly improve food production capacity, strengthen food security, and build a resilient economy.

In his closing remarks, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori urged his colleagues to reevaluate budget priorities and recognize agriculture and food security as indispensable pillars of national development. He underscored the need for substantial investment in these sectors to secure Nigeria's prosperity and ensure long-term sustainability.
