The Bauchi State Government has launched a statewide livestock vaccination campaign targeting over 1.5 million animals across the state’s 20 local government areas.
The initiative, which includes the procurement of over 10,000 doses of rabies vaccines, is a response to recent cases of animal bites involving dogs and other animals in parts of the state. The vaccination campaign aims to ensure a healthy livestock population, promote livestock farming, and boost the state’s economy.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 2025 Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Itas Gadau Local Government Area, Governor Bala Mohammed highlighted Bauchi’s position as a leading state in livestock population. He attributed this status to the influx of Fulani cattle breeders from conflict-affected areas across Nigeria.
As part of efforts to enhance livestock management and welfare, the governor announced the creation of the State Ministry of Livestock Development. He also unveiled plans to construct 100 dams along cattle routes to provide access to water and foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
During the event, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf Tilde, and the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Muhammad Husaini Buzaye, commended the governor for the initiative. They urged livestock owners to actively participate in the vaccination campaign by ensuring their animals are vaccinated.
The leaders further called for the inclusion of animal feed distribution programs and the continuation of livestock vaccination efforts as part of the state government’s broader agricultural development strategy.
