The Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, in collaboration with his Senate counterpart, Distinguished Senator Sani Zangon-Daura, conducted an extensive review of the 2025 budget estimates presented by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The budget defense session focused on MDAs including NEPAD-AUDA, ICPR, and DTA, with Chairman Laori urging their management teams to provide detailed reports on their 2024 budget performance. He also requested comprehensive justifications for their proposed allocations for 2025.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Laori emphasized the importance of aligning budgetary priorities with the mandates of the respective MDAs, highlighting their critical role in driving national growth and fostering regional integration in Africa.
“While we commend the progress made by the MDAs, it is essential that expenditures focus on impactful projects and programs. This is a call for accountability and probity, ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of all Nigerians,” Laori stated.
He further stressed the need for transparency in the operations of public institutions, urging all heads of MDAs to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their management of resources.
The session provided an opportunity for the MDAs to showcase their achievements while addressing questions raised by the legislators about their plans for the upcoming fiscal year.
